To 7th and 8th Grade Band Students and Parents:

The Music Department will be participating in the Carowinds Festival of Music on Saturday, May 4, 2019 (May The 4th Be With You!).  We will be performing before established musicians and band directors that will judge us in musicianship categories such as tone, balance, dynamics, articulation, etc.

Last year the band earned a Superior rating at the Kings Dominion Festival of Music. I would like to continue this tradition by auditioning students for their place in the ensemble.  Students will be given plenty of time to rehearse in class and at home before their audition occurs.  Students will be involved in at least 3 stages of auditions and must receive an 85 or above to earn their spot.  All students that audition will be recorded (audio and visual). Please be assured, these recordings will not be posted!   I will judge students using the playing test rubric found at

http://home.rogersherrmusic.com/band/playing-test-rubric. Students are expected to have good behavior in class, maintain an 85 average in class, pay all band fees, and be in good financial standing with the RHMS Music Boosters in addition to passing the audition.

Students that do not audition or miss any of the audition deadlines will automatically be ineligible to go on the Carowinds performance trip.

Students have been given information on their first round of auditions.  All audition information can be found on the Rogers-Herr Music Department band section of the website.  Just look under the correct grade level under “Playing Tests”.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Renada Cammon
